The demands on a hospitality terrace go far beyond those of a private one: high footfall, daily routines, changing weather — and at the same time the area shapes the first impression of the business. When choosing the material, what counts is therefore not only appearance and purchase price, but wear resistance, maintenance and suitability for continuous commercial use. Why does a hospitality terrace place higher demands than a private one?

During a single summer season, several thousand guests often come into contact with the surface. Chairs are moved with every change of service, tables rearranged, service trolleys pushed across the area; cleaning takes place daily, sometimes several times. Added to this are point loads from parasol bases and mobile elements. The surface must not only withstand this strain — it must keep an even appearance over the years, because on large areas differences show up immediately.

What does the Swiss climate demand of the surface?

These differences directly influence how the material behaves and how much maintenance it needs — and what lies beneath the surface matters just as much: a properly built substructure, drainage and rear ventilation. WPC, natural wood or ceramic: the comparison for hospitality

All three materials have their place. Natural wood is convincing where the authentic look comes first and the maintenance cycle can be organised. Ceramic scores on resistance, but in outdoor hospitality it is not preferred everywhere because of walking comfort and appearance. WPC positions itself in between: the look and feel of a wooden terrace with considerably less maintenance effort — and therefore particularly interesting wherever the area is used intensively.

Which properties make WPC interesting on a restaurant terrace?

Resistance to chairs and point loads. The daily movement of seating is the most common cause of visible wear. High-quality WPC boards cope with this strain considerably better than soft timber species — the area stays even after several seasons.

Dimensional stability under the sun. WPC absorbs almost no water and remains dimensionally stable; a slight natural colour maturing is normal. Dark tones look striking but heat up more than light ones — a point that belongs in the colour decision for south-facing locations.

Slip resistance. After rain, or during cleaning, the area must not turn into a slide. Slip resistance comes from the individual board and its surface: grooved surfaces are the obvious choice for heavily used service zones — we match them to how your terrace is actually used.

Where does the selection begin?

Which board profile fits? The documented profiles cover the common requirements: Eco Deck Slim at 125 mm wide, Eco Deck Classic at 145 mm and Eco Deck FineLine at 171 mm — all 25 mm thick, standard length 4.2 m. Wider boards are laid with fewer joints and look more generous; narrower ones structure the area more finely. Which surfaces and colours are available? Slim and FineLine are documented with a grooved and a smooth sanded surface, Classic in three surface variants (Fine Brushed, Brushed — limited in colour — and Sanded); the colour palette comprises chocolate brown, red-brown, walnut, stone grey and anthracite. What role does installation play?

Even high-quality material only shows its advantages when executed correctly. The key values according to the installation instructions: a load-bearing substrate, a gradient of 1–2 %, substructure spacings of ideally 30–35 cm (maximum 40 cm), at least 1 cm clearance from walls and fixed structural elements, and rubber pads against water build-up.
